Two people were arrested with counterfeit currency notes worth Tk 20 lakh in Chunati area of Lohagara upazila in Chattogram on Wednesday.

The arrested were identified as Mohammad Rubel, 32, son of Md Belayet, hailed from Doulatkhan area in Bhola, and Omar Ali, 50, son of Abul Kashem, hailed from Satkania area in Chattogram.

Lohagara police station’s officer-in-charge Md Atiqur Rahman told New Age that they arrested Rubel and Omar with counterfeit currency notes worth of Tk 20 lakh from a passenger bus in Chunati area in Lohagara while conducting a check post at about 10:30am.

‘The arrested were taking the counterfeit currency notes from Cox’s Bazar to Chattogram ahead of Ramadan,’ the OC said.

A case was filed with Lohagara police station in this connection, he said, adding that they were trying to arrest others who were involved in manufacturing counterfeit currency.
